  • Each of the three core modules are made up of four study units:

     

    Module 1: Fundamentals of human function
    Gain a comprehensive understanding of the human body and its nutritional needs, along with insights into the fitness industry.

     

    • Health and fitness industry market insights: Understand the current trends and opportunities in the fitness industry.

    • Components of optimal human function: Explore the essential elements of health, fitness, exercise and well-being.

    • Applied anatomy and physiology: Gain a solid foundation in human anatomy and physiology.

    • Principles of nutrition: Learn about the role of nutrition in health and fitness.

    Module 2: Principles of exercise and activity science
    Develop the skills to design and deliver effective training programmes for clients with diverse needs and backgrounds.

  • In partnership with our Hosted Academy partners, our diploma timetable is often supported by a schedule of Live workshops delivered highly experienced coaches and course tutors. These workshops are highly practical and provide the hands on coaching skills development that is required to excel in the health, fitness and wellbeing sector. Face to face lessons offer the opportunity to connect with your tutor and any other learners at the same stage of the programme as you in an engaging and collaborative setting.

    Through the timetable of workshops, typically spread across 8-12 weeks, learners become fully prepared for industry, benefitting from an extra layer of real world learning in addition to the comprehensive online learning materials and coursework assignments.

  • The Diploma in Personal Training assessments are the end of course exams. There are three theory assessments and three practical assessments:

    Open book, multiple choice theory exams:

    1. Level 2 Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness.

    2. Level 3 Applied anatomy and physiology for exercise, health and fitness.

    3. Principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health.

    Practical assessments:

    1. Observed online client consultation (to support case study assignment).

    2. Observed fitness environment induction.

    3. Observed 1-to-1 personal training session (for the same client from your case study assignment and consultation).

  • Alongside the final practical and theory exams, during the course, learners will need to produce two real world case studies and six coursework assignments.

     

    Case study 1: Periodised (three phase) training programme for a newly acquired client, including:

    • Initial needs analysis questionnaire and food diary.

    • Physical activity readiness questionnaire and health commitment statement.

    • Educational guidance documentation for supporting client success.

    • Online (video recorded) 1-to-1 consultation appointment and follow up feedback support.

    • 3 x training regimes, including workout plans for each scheduled day of the week - each phase/regime will progress safely, effective and suitably for the client's individual needs. 

     

    The programmes designed and submitted for your periodised training plan case study will form the basis of your final practical assessment - where you will teach a live PT session with your client.

    Case study 2: Professional fitness business plan proposal, including:

    • Initial business evaluation.

    • Market research.

    • Business overview.

    • Financial performance forecast.

    • Go to market strategy (and budget).

    Assignment 1: Personal training competencies worksheet.

    Assignment 2: Supporting clients and encouraging positive behaviour change worksheet.

    Assignment 3: Professionalism and customer care worksheet.

    Assignment 4: Health and safety in the fitness environment worksheet.

    Assignment 5: Observational analysis and programming adaptations task.

    Assignment 6: Personal and professional development plan.

  • In addition to the lesson content, live workshops, course assignments and assessments, learners have unlimited access to tutor guidance via video call, phone and chat messenger as well as access to an extensive range of further learning and revision resources including:

COURSE STRUCTURE

The CAVA is the official, Ofqual-regulated qualification for all aspiring vocational assessors in the UK.

Formally qualify to assess learners across any industry. This certificate proves your expertise in national standards, making you an invaluable asset to training providers, colleges, and employers in any industry.

  • The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is comprised of three essential units. This structure ensures you develop a theoretical foundation before applying your skills in both simulated and real-work environments.

    Unit 1: Provides the core knowledge of assessment principles and practices.

     

    Unit 2: Focuses on the practical assessment of vocational skills in settings like workshops or classrooms.

     

    Unit 3: Focuses on the practical assessment of occupational competence directly in the workplace.

  • Each of the three core units are made up of four sections:

     

    Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

    Learn the functions of assessment, key concepts like validity and reliability, your responsibilities as an assessor, and how to plan and manage assessments effectively.

    Unit 2: Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding

    Apply your knowledge by practically assessing learners in a training environment. You will use a range of methods including skills tests, assignments, projects, and questioning.

    Unit 3: Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment

    Conduct assessments of learners in the workplace, evaluating competence through direct observation, examining work products, and professional discussions.

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA

Your Assessor qualification is awarded based on a comprehensive portfolio of evidence that proves your theoretical knowledge and practical assessment skills.

  • Knowledge-Based Assignments
    You will begin by completing the detailed worksheet for Unit 1. This open-book assignment covers the fundamental principles of assessment, ensuring you have the core knowledge required before moving to practical application.

     

    Evidence Collection:

    You will gather and document a range of evidence, including observations, products of work, questioning, and professional discussions.

    Feedback & Record Keeping:

    You will provide constructive feedback to your learners and maintain accurate, standardised assessment records.

  • Practical Assessment with Your Learners
    The core of this qualification involves assessing two of your own learners. You will conduct a minimum of four assessments in total, which will be observed by your tutor. This involves:

     

    Assessment Planning:

    You will create detailed assessment plans for your two learners, selecting appropriate methods to meet the criteria for both Units 2 and 3.

    • Assessing Vocational Skills (Unit 2): You will assess one learner's skills and knowledge in a training environment (e.g., a classroom or workshop), carrying out at least two assessments.

    • Assessing Occupational Competence (Unit 3): You will assess a second learner's competence in their live work environment, carrying out at least two assessments.

  • Alongside the core curriculum and assessment support, you will have unlimited access to our comprehensive suite of learning and revision resources, including:
